Mary Lawrence Test has been with Bonne, Bridges, Mueller, O'Keefe & Nichols since 1988, where she started as a law clerk. She graduated from the SCALE program at Southwestern University in 1989, and was admitted to the California bar in 1990. She is admitted to practice before all the courts of the State of California, and in the Central District of California.
Before law school, Mary graduated from Smith College in 1964. She received a masters in French language and literature from UCLA in 1966. She received her Ph.D. in French language and literature in 1973, with an emphasis on 20th century literature and criticism. She taught at the Polytechnic School in Pasadena, Cal State University Fresno and Cal State University Los Angeles, before leaving teaching to pursue a career in writing, editing and translating.
She worked as a copywriter with a then major west-coast health-care advertising agency, Baxter, Gurian, Mazzei, in Beverly Hills from 1975 to 1981. She handled pharmaceutical and medical equipment accounts. She left BGM to work at the University of Southern California Cancer Center. One of her responsibilities at that job was Cancer Center public information surrounding the opening of the Kenneth Norris Cancer Hospital in 1982. She left USC in 1985 to attend law school, with plans to specialize in medical malpractice defense law.
Mary is a member of the Southern California Defense Counsel. She is a member of the L.A. County Bar Association and in the past edited the monthly newsletter of the Wilshire Bar Association. She currently volunteers one day a month in a Spanish-language clinic at the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law, an organization that offers assistance to low-income men and women seeking marriage dissolution and other family-law related issues..
Mary's personal interests include reading and translating, print-making, bird watching, hiking and gardening.
